Content comparison type

1. Content comparison type
Changes the method that Duplicate Cleaner uses to compare files:

  • Byte-to-byte (Compares all identically sized files against the other on a byte-by-byte basis)
  • MD5 (Hash algorithm -fastest)
  • SHA-1 (Hash algorithm - slower)
  • SHA-256 (Hash algorithm -slowest)

Hash algorithms generate a 'fingerprint' for each file. These are then compared for duplicates. More info here.

Use image metrics caching

2. Use image metrics caching
When checked, information about images scanned (in Image Mode) is cached, and used to speed up subsequent scans.
The Clear cache button will clear this cache.
3

Use file hash caching

3. Use file hash caching
When checked, file hashes (in Regular mode) are cached, and are used to speed up subsequent scans.
The Clear cache button will clear this cache.
4

Long path support

4. Long path support
Support for long (>260 character) path names. Note that Windows' own support for these is patchy. (Long file names cannot be deleted in the Recycle bin for instance).
5

Zip file space

5. Zip file space
The maximum amount of temporary space Duplicate Cleaner is to use when unzipping archives for scanning. Having too small an amount available may slow down the scanning of zip archives.

6

Maximum duplicate files

6. Maximum duplicate files
This option controls the maximum number of duplicate files to find in a scan.  This option can be used to bring the results of a scan down to a manageable size, saving memory.
7

Reset all settings and data button

7. Reset all settings and data button
Clicking this will close the program, restoring all settings to 'newly installed' conditions.
